What it is & how to use it
What is this?
Configurable Conflict Handling lets you choose which system should “win” when the same file or folder is updated in both systems before a the next sync runs.
Why it matters
Without this:
- Conflicts are resolved in a fixed way (source wins)
- Outcomes can feel unexpected
With this:
- ✅ You decide what happens
- ✅ Outcomes are predictable
- ✅ You can have trust in the outcomes
Important to understand
The below explains how a sync works, what it looks for and what it doesn't.
- ✅ Detects that something changed
- ❌ Does not compare file contents
- ❌ Does not merge edits
- ❌ Does not decide which change is “better”
3 options are available for a sync-conflict
1. Source Wins
- The source system overrides the destination
- Destination changes are saved as a previous version
✅ Use when: Source is your system of record
2. Destination Wins
- The destination overrides the source
- Source changes are saved as a previous version
✅ Use when: Destination is authoritative
3. Latest Timestamp Wins
- The most recently updated version wins
- The other version is saved as a previous version
✅ Use when: Latest updates matters most
🔄 What counts as a conflict?
A conflict happens when:
- The same file or folder changes in both systems before the next sync cycle begins checking for changes
When a conflict is detected:
- Syncly checks your chosen rule
- Applies the winning version
- Saves the losing version as a previous version
- Logs a conflict event (visible in the workflow) so you always have visibility and can manually intervene as required.
✅ Result: No edits are lost
IMPORTANT: In order for all versions to be retained, ensure in your workflow settings "Latest version only" is not selected.
🛠️ How to set it up (quick steps)
- Go to:
Admin → Workflow → Two-Way Sync - Find Conflict Resolution Strategy
- Choose one:
- Source wins
- Destination wins
- Latest timestamp wins
- Ensure "Latest version only" is not selected
- Save your workflow
What you’ll see
- Conflict events logged in the workflow
- Optional alerts (if configured)
- Conflict indicator icon
- This icon will remain until you select it as reviewed.
- New conflict notifications will not be sent if an existing conflict is on the workflow. Marking all conflicts as reviewed will remove the conflict status and any new conflicts will then trigger alerts.
